Why Travel Insurance Is the Unsung Hero of Every Great Trip
June 25, 2025
Travel insurance isn’t glamorous, but it’s one of the smartest investments you can make before a trip. We’re talking about coverage for trip cancellations, delays, medical emergencies, evacuations, lost baggage, and more. From flight delays that cause missed connections to unexpected stomach bugs or injury abroad, a solid policy can save you thousands of dollars—not to mention the stress of figuring things out on your own in a foreign country.
Now, not all travel insurance is created equal. That “add-on insurance” some booking sites offer might look convenient, but it often comes with limited coverage and fine print that can leave you out in the cold. That’s where I come in. I work directly with a travel insurance agency that specializes exclusively in travel coverage. They’re not available to the public, and they don’t dabble in car, home, or life insurance. Travel is their only focus—which means they know exactly how to protect your trip, and they’ve got your back when you need it most.
And for my fellow planners out there—yes, insurance also helps with peace of mind before you go. Planning a big trip is an investment of time, money, and energy. Having insurance in place means you’re protected if a family emergency, illness, or even a major storm forces you to change plans. It’s one less thing to worry about in the midst of all the excitement.
Travel Insurance Do’s and Don’ts
DO:
✅ Read the fine print before you buy—know what’s covered and what’s not
✅ Make sure your policy includes primary medical coverage, especially if you’re traveling internationally
✅ Look for “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) upgrades if you want extra flexibility
✅ Keep receipts, doctor’s notes, and records for any claims—documentation is key!
✅ Buy your insurance soon after booking—many benefits (like CFAR) are time-sensitive
DON’T:
❌ Don’t assume your credit card covers everything—most have major gaps
❌ Don’t wait until the last minute to buy—some policies won’t cover events that happen after purchase
❌ Don’t go with the cheapest policy without checking coverage limits
❌ Don’t rely on domestic health insurance abroad—most U.S. plans don’t cover international care
❌ Don’t skip it “just this once”—the one trip you skip coverage on might be the one where you need it most
Whether you booked your trip with me, another agent, or totally on your own—I can still help with your travel insurance. This is about making sure you’re protected, no matter how or where you travel.
So before you zip up your suitcase and head to the airport, let’s make sure your trip is fully covered. Trust me—travel insurance might not be the most exciting part of your adventure, but it just might be the most important.
